Explanation:

To add fractions together you have to have a common denominator. To do this, I multiplied -1/5 by 2 to get -2/10 which has the same denominator (10) as 17/10. now you add the numerator of both fractions. -2+17 equals 15. so your new fraction is 15/10. 15 divided by 10 is 1.5 which you can write as 1 and 1/2.
