Which branch of goverment this describing? Although there are many powers and jobs of members of this branch, the main job is to make laws. There is a process for a bill to become a law. Both houses have debates about the bill and make changes. If it get 28 passed by a majority then it goes to the president. If this branch feels strongly about the bill becoming a law they can override a president's veto by having two thirds of this branch vote for the proposed bill.
