Visitors to a cinema are either children, adults or pensioners the ratio of children to adult visitors is 1 : 2 the ratio of adults to pensioners is 3 : 4 a stratified sample is to be taken from the cinema visitors how many pensioners should be in the sample?

And, the total number of seats is 85

Based on the above information,

The common ratios we could write as

1.5 : 3 : 4

Now we doubled it

3 : 6 : 8

So, the number of pensioners in the sample is

= 85 × 8 ÷ (3 + 6 +8)

= 40

Hence, the number of pensioners in the sample is 40
