Answer and explanation:

Given that Kiran buys x bags of fertilizer and y packages of soil

He pays $5 for each bag of fertilizer and pays $2 for each package of soil

He spends a total of $90

So his equation is

5x+2y= $90

If we solve the equation for y(packages of soil)

We would have:

2y=$90-5x

y= $90-5x/2

Therefore Kiran's equation to get number of packages of soil is

y=$90-5x/2
