3/8 + 5/6 The common denominator is 24

3*3/3*8 = 9 / 24

5*4/6*4 = 20/24

9/24 + 20/24 = 29/24

Now divide by 5

29/24 * 1/5 = 29/120

Does that equal the decimal result that we got?

29/120 = .24166 which is the same thing. The fractions are a little harder to handle than the decimals.
