Sarah Meeham blends coffee for Tasti-Delight. She needs to prepare 150 pounds of blended coffee beans selling for $5.54 per pound. She plans to do this by blending tighter a high-quality bean costing $6.25 per pound and a cheaper bean $3.25 per pound. To the nearest pound, find how much high-quality coffee bean and how much cheaper coffee bean she should blend.

let p= pounds of expensive $6.50 coffe

Then 140-p = pounds of $2.00 coffee

6.5p + 2(140-p) = 4.89(140)

Multiply through the parenthesis,

combine like terms... solve for p.

Then you know how many pounds of

$6.50 coffee to use.

Subtract that from 140 to get how many

pounds of $2.00 coffee the use.
