I've always wondered..

How can they determine if a baby is deaf or blind. The baby can't say anything so how do they know.

No eye contact

Do not follow objects/bright light

Doesn’t smile back at mothers face

Wandering eyes (Nystagmus)

Whitish reflex of the pupil/cornea

The cause could be the eye or the brain. Physicians ( optometrists and ophthalmologists) do a series of tests such as VEP (visual evoked potential), visual acuity and in some case refer for brain imaging to quantify the level of visual loss and determine the cause. To see if a baby is Deaf is really easy. If you are still in the hospital and your baby is in the hospital nursery with other babies, observe what happens when a baby starts crying. No baby can remain unaffected when hearing another baby cry…and as soon as they hear a baby cry, they themselves will start crying as well. This is called a ‘sympathy cry.’ If your baby doesn’t cry when other babies are crying, you should have your baby’s hearing checked.
Last but not least they eat the baby
