Robert uses a wheelbarrow to haul wood from his backyard to the back of his neighbor's house, located 9 kilometers away.

1. If he takes 2 breaks evenly when pushing the wheelbarrow the complete distance, at what distance does he take his first break?
2. Robert has 36 pieces to take, but can only take 9 each time. What distance in meters, will he have to travel to move all the wood.

Answer:

1. 3 breaks

2. 36,000 meters

Explanation:

1. To solve this, we must divide 9 by 3 since the first break, the second break, and the complete distance are all major stops.

9 ÷ 3 = 3

Robert takes 3 breaks.

2. Since Robert has to has to take 36 pieces, but only 9 each time, we must divide 36 by 9.

36 ÷ 9 = 4

He will need to take 4 trips to take all the wood.

However, this question asks the distance in meters. Since 1 kilometer is 1,000 meters, then 9 kilometers is 9,000 meters.

9000 x 4 = 36000 meters
