9. Matt bought a new crate for his dog. The old crate was 8 square feet, and the new crate was 12 square feet. What is the percent increase in the space?

Solution:

It is given that :

Area of old crate = 8 square feet

Area of the new crate = 12 square feet

Therefore difference in the area = 12 - 8

= 4 square feet

Now the percentage increase in the area of the crate is given by :


$=\frac{\text{difference in the area of crate}}{\text{original area of crate}} * 100$


$=(4)/(8) * 100$

= 50%

So the percentage increase in space is 50%
