"Where'd you find this pot roast, Ms. H.? In the gutter?!"
Dead silence. Amanda stared at me with her mouth
open. Ms. Howard frowned.
I had been sitting at the Howards' dinner table, trying to
think of something funny to say. I wanted to fit in with
my friend's family so badly. They were all hilarious,
cracking jokes throughout dinner.
Suddenly, it had hit me. I'd use my favorite comedian's
best tag line: "In the gutter?!" I thought it would be a
huge hit! Boy, was I wrong.
O Amanda's friend insults Ms. Howard's cooking.
O Amanda stares at the friend with her mouth open.
