Students plan to pay back half the debt now though fundraising, and the rest after the harvest. Write an equation to represent the debt they will repay through fundraising. Use a negative integer to show debt. Use "D" to represent the debt that will be repaid by through fundraising.

Explanation:

The students in this question are trying to pay back only half of the current debt (d) with the fundraiser (D). Since debt is money that is owed it would therefore be represented as a negative but in this case the fundraiser needs to be positive since it is money gained. So since we have a negative we would need to divide by -2 in order for the total to be positive.

Finally, we are left with this equation which shows the debt that will be repaid through the fundraiser
