A racehorse breeder's sells feed by the ton (2000 pounds). They add a special supplement to the feed. Each horse needs 300 milligrams (mg) of this supplement a day and each horse consumes 15 pounds of the feed per day. If there are 1,000 milligrams in a gram, how many grams of the medication should the feed company add for each ton of feed they produce

Answer: 40 grams

Explanation:

Each horse needs 300 milligrams and each horse eats 15 pounds of feed per day.

This means that 300 milligrams should be in 15 pounds of feed.

In 2,000 pounds therefore, the medication that should be added is;

= (2,000 * 300) / 15

= 40,000 milligrams of supplement

Question calls for how much grams are needed.

1 gram is 1,000mg

40,000 milligrams is;

= 40,000/1,000

= 40 grams
