a bee flies at 12 feet per second directly to a flowerbed from its hive. The bee stays at the flowerbed for 14 minutes, and then flies directly back to the hive at 8 feet per second. It is away frim the hive for a total of 16 minutes. what equation can can you use to find the distance of the flowerbed from the hive? How far is the flowerbed from the hive?

Answer:

(x/12 + 840 + x/8) = 960

576 feets

Explanation:

Given that :

Speed to flower bed = 12 ft/s

Speed back to hive = 8 ft/s

Time spent at flower bed = 14 minutes = 14*60.= 840

Total time = 16 mins = (16 * 60) = 960

Let distance between bee hive and flower bed = x

Time taken to flower bed = x / 12

Time taken back to hive = x /8

(x/12 + 840 + x/8) = 960 - - equation

L.C.M of 12 and 8 = 24

(2x + 20160 + 3x)/ 24 = 960

(2x + 20160 + 3x) = 23040

5x = 23040 - 20160

5x = 2880

x = 2880 / 5

x = 576

Distance between flowerbed and hive = 576 feets
