Given y is directly proportional to x then the equation relating them is

y = kx ← k is the constant of proportion

To find k use the condition y = 24 when x = 6 , then

24 = 6k ( divide both sides by 6 )

4 = k

y = 4x ← equation of proportion

When y = 16, then

16 = 4x ( divide both sides by 4 )

4 = x
