A hairstylist schedules 14 hour to trim a customer's hair and 16 hour to style the customer's hair. The hairstylist plans to work 3 13 hours each day for 5 days each week. How many appointments can the hairstylist schedule each week if each customer must be trimmed and styled?

Explanation:

Trimming = 1/4 hours

Styling = 1/6 hours

Working hours per day = 3 1/3 hours

Working days per week = 5

Total work time per week :

3 1/3 * 5 = 10/3 * 5 = 50 / 3 hours

Time taken for styling and trimming :

1/4 + 1/6 = (3 + 2) / 12 = 5/12

Number of appointments stylist can schedule each week :

Total work time / time taken per person

(50 / 3) ÷ (5 / 12)

(50 /3) * (12 /5)

(50 * 12) / (3 * 5)

= 600 / 15

= 40
