What is the solution of |y+2|=6

Answer :-

|y+2| = 6

There are 2 cases possible -

1st case -

y + 2 = 6

y = 6 - 2

y = 4

2nd case -

- ( y + 2 ) = 6

- y - 2 = 6

- y = 6 + 2

- y = 8

y = -8

Values of y = 4, -8

the “||” usually represent absolute value. so assuming they do here the equation would be y+2=6, the next step is to combine like terms and subtract 2. You should end up with y=4. (If you are looking for both possibilities) you would also have to do the negative since there is a variable, so y+2=-6 and you would end up with y=-8 [answers: y=4 or y=-8]
