The symbol Egyptians associated with Hapi in their religion was the lotus (which represented birth in the ancient Egyptian religion), as the shape of the river in northern Egypt resembles the flower. The flooding of the Nile was also said to be named the Arrival of Hapi, which may symbolise birth since Hapi is shown to be wearing lotus flowers on his head.
