At the point of intersection both equations have same value of x and y.

y = x - 3

y = 1 - x

Since the 2 right sides are both = y:

x - 3 = 1 - x

x + x = 1 + 3

2x = 4

x = 2.

Substituting for x in equation 1:

y = 2 - 3 = -1.
