Answer: x= -5

Explanation:

  1. Combine like terms: 7/2x and 1/2x are like terms--> adding them we get 8/2x or 4x
  2. Isolate x by subtracting 9/2x from the other side, getting us -1/2x= 2 1/2
  3. Multiply by -2 to get x= -5

These steps are the same for solving all equations with one variable.
