more visually:

(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

for (-2, 1) let’s say -2 is x1 and 1 is y1

for (3, 6) let’s say 3 is x2 and 6 is y2

(6 -1)/(3 -(-2)) here -(-2) is basically -1(-2) and a negative times a negative is a positive so -2 becomes +2
