After the French and Indian war, Britain needed a way to pay off it's debts. Parliament decided to begin The Stamp Act to help pay for the protection of American colonies. Colonies became upset that they were paying for a war they had no part in.
A common protest cry was, "No taxations without representation." These protest eventually led to the Townshend Act which taxed all goods. This was a punishment act, but it was later repealed.
