Answer:

x^2-3x=0

x is a common factor

x(x-3)=0

x=0 or x-3=0

x=3

Given: x² - 3x = 0

Here the common term is x so simplify take it out

  • x(x - 3) = 0

Now set the terms to zero

  • x = 0, x - 3 = 0

Exchange the sides

  • x = 0, x = 3

Hence, option A is correct. x = 0 and 3

Another example, similar method:

(i) Given: x² + 100x = 0

takeout the common term

  • x(x + 100) = 0

set to zero

  • x = 0, x + 100 = 0

exchange sides

  • x = 0, x = -100

(ii) Given x² -x - 6 = 0

breakdown the following

  • x² - 3x + 2x - 6 = 0

takeout common term

  • x(x - 3) + 2(x - 3) = 0

collect into groups

  • (x + 2)(x - 3) = 0

set to zero

  • x = -2, x = 3
