X-2y=1
X=1+2y

2(1+2y)+3y=-12
2+4y+3y=-12
2+7y=-12
7y=-12-2
7y=-14
y=-2

x-2*-2=1
x-(-4)=1
x+4=1
x=1-4
X=-3

Answer:

x= -3

y= -2

From the first one, if you add 2y to both sides you can plug that into the second one and solve for y. Then, plug y to the first one and solve for x.
