1 . Solve 4x + 5 > 5x − 2 for x.

2. Solve 7y − 13 ≤ -2y + 14 for y.

I will do number 1 only. You can then use my solution steps to do the rest.

Solve 4x + 5 > 5x − 2 for x.

4x + 5 > 5x − 2

4x - 5x > - 2 - 5

-x > -7

Dividing both sides by a negative number reverses the inequality sign. In other words, the sign > becomes < in the reply.

-x/-1 < -7/-1

x < 7

Answer: x < 7

The answer here means that whatever the value of x is for question 1, it must be less than 7.
