Shackled by poverty
I’ll tell you what it’s like worrying about bills at age 17
What it’s like to have someone say,
“ No like where are YOU from”
Because with that skin, I'm not American right?
Where home remedies cure cancer cuz we can’t even offer insurance
Where the color of your skin has you breathing in
Everytime you see red and blue
Where “resisting arrest” is a pass to the police
Where every history lessons covered in sugary sweets
“ We were the First state to join the North!”
It’s where before you get your son you get the hospital bill
We’re stuck with we got
