or you can algebraically solve.

To check this, you can basically plug in the x and y values for the equation and see if they match with what the equation equals..

Example:

10x + 3y = 43

-9x - y = -20

10(1) + 3(11) --> 10 + 33 = 43.. 43 equals 43

-9(1) - (11) = -9 - 111 = -20.. -20 equals -20

(the values match up so it's a solution)
