We have learned that ones body composition can affect the natural ability to float. Applying the principles, where anything that has a higher density that water will sink in water, is obesity a factor of a person to float or submerge into the water? why or why not?

yes this is a real question for our class...

Answer:

Yes and no, obesity can help you to not drown, but if you're too big it could cause you to drown due to the amount of excessive fat

yes it is a factor because an obese person would weigh more than a person with an average bmi, making them more likely to have a higher density in water (i think)
