8).

(a) Acid Rain is formed due to precipitation of acids (oxides of nitrogen and sulfur dioxide) mixing with the oxygen and water in the clouds. Then they pour on the ground with the rain water leading huge problems like damaging habitat for animals and etc.

(b) Acid rain is formed due to Sulphur dioxide formed by combustion of fuels and nitrogen oxides from hot engines, they dissolve and cause acid rain.

Equation's:

formation of Sulphur dioxide : S + O₂ = SO₂

formation of sulfuric acid : SO₂ + ½O₂ + H₂O = H₂SO₄

(c) Some harmful effects of acid rain are:

i) Damages tree and plants.

ii) Kills fish and animals in river.

iii) Damages buildings and structures.

Additional: Acid rain can be prevented by addition of catalytic converters in car and using slaked lime in factories to neutralize the acidic oxides.
