Hi student, let me help you out!

..............................................................................................................................................

First, let's recall the process of dividing fractions. We can easily do that if we follow these steps:

  1. Flip over the fraction you are dividing by.
  2. Multiply the first fraction times the second fraction.
  3. Simplify if you can.

Step 1. Flip over the fraction you are dividing by:
\mathrm{\cfrac{3}{5}/\cfrac{9}{8}}

Step 2: Multiply the first fraction times the second fraction:
\mathrm{\cfrac{3*9}{5*8}}.

Notice that we multiply the numerator of the first fraction times the numerator of the second fraction, and we do the exact same thing with the denominators.

Upon simplifying, we obtain
\mathrm{\cfrac{27}{40}}.

We cannot simplify this fraction, since 27 and 40 do not have any common factors at all, except 1.

Hope this helped you out, ask in comments if any queries arise.

Dividing Fractions

3/5÷8/9

How to know what to do next? give solution with steps

To determine the quotient of the two fractions, get the reciprocal of the second fraction, change the division sign into multiplication sign and simplify.

  • 3/5 ÷ 8/9
  • 3/5 × 9/8

Multiply numerator to numerator and denominator to denominator. Reduce the expression if possible.

  • 3/5 × 9/8
  • 3 × 9/5 × 8
  • 27/40

Answer:

  • The quotient is 27/40.
