Using the converse theorem of Pythagoras.

If the longest side squared is equal to the sum of the other 2 sides, then the triangle is right.

longest side = 17 and 17² = 289 and

8² + 15² = 64 + 225 = 289

Since 8² + 15² = 17² then the triangle is right.
