Answer: The Justinian Code was the foundation for the Byzantine legal system for nearly nine hundred years. The served its purpose and brought law and order back to the Byzantines. Even though the Page 3 Byzantine Empire would be finished off by the Ottoman Empire the Justinian Codes influence had spread to most of Europe. What did the Code of Justinian do? To consolidate thousands of laws inherited by the Roman Empire. To revise outdated or confusing laws and make improvements to existing laws. The Justinian Code or Corpus Juris Civilis (Corpus of Civil Law) was a major reform of Byzantine law created by Emperor Justinian I . ... Not only used as a basis for Byzantine law for over 900 years, the laws therein continue to influence many western legal systems to this day.
