A canary has a heart rate of about 17 beats per second. How does the canary's heart rate compare to the bat's heart rate? Explain. (Remember, there are 60 seconds in a minute.)

A canary's heart beats around 1,000 times per minute or 16.67 times per second. A canary is a very small bird whose heart beats more than twelve times faster than yours.

While a bat's heart beats between 200 to 1,000 times per minute. That means that while the bat is flying, its heart beats at the same rate as a canary's. But when the bat is resting, its heart beats is reduced by 5 times to "only" 200 beats per minute or 3.33 beats per second.
