okay so if - 19 is equal to 17 + k divided by 5, first you figure out what you have to do to 17 to get -19. in this case, all you do is subtract 17 from 17 to get 0, then subtract 19 from 0 to get -19. then you add 17 and 19 to see how much you subtracted from 17 to get -19, so you subtracted 36 from 17. now you add the - sign to the 36 so that means instead of subtracting a positive number you're adding a negative number (it has the same effect) so you now need to know what, when divided by 5, equals -36. so just multiply -36 by five to get -180. so k = 170

17 + -36 = -19
