The Fundamental law for the new state was drafted swiftly: Convention members simply took one of the latest state constitutions, the 1799 document of Kentucky, made a few minor changes, shortened it a bit, and voila, the work was finished. As most of the Creole delegates were members of aristocratic families and a goodly number of Americans were well on their way to becoming members of the same group through membership at the bar, extensive landholdings, or advantageous marriages, they approved of the generally aristocratic Kentucky constitution.
