A rectangle has a length that is 6 cm less than the width. The area of the rectangle is 72 cm squared. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

Answer:

width = 12, length = 6

Explanation:

x(x - 6) = 72

x² - 6x = 72

x² - 6x - 72 = 0

(x - 12)(x + 6) = 0

x = 12 or -6

length cannot be negative so x = 12

width = 12 and length = 6
