In question 1.
The sum of both angles will equal to 180 (they are supplementary angles) degrees since it’s a straight angle.
(6x+6)+(8x-22) =180
Add like terms.
14x -16= 180
Solve for x:
14x = 180+16
14x= 196
x=14
Check:

(6*14+6)+(8*14-22) =180
84+6 +112-22= 189
180 = 180
Hence x =14

Question 2.
It’s clear that the angles are complementary angles meaning they add up to 90.
We do the same process.
(3x+5)+40=90
3x+45 = 90
3x= 90-45
3x = 45
x=15
Check:
(3*15+5)+40=90
45+5+40=90
50+40=90
90=90
So x = 15

Answer:

See below ~

Explanation:

Question 1

⇒ The given angles are supplementary (add up to 180°)

⇒ 6x + 6 + 8x - 22 = 180

⇒ 14x - 16 = 180

⇒ 14x = 196

x = 14

============================================================

Question 2

⇒ The given angles are complementary (Add up to 90°)

⇒ 3x + 5 + 40 = 90

⇒ 3x + 45 = 90

⇒ 3x = 45

x = 15
