Let the length of the side be x

From Pythagoras’ theorem, the square of the side of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the two other sides

x^2 + x^2 = 38^2

2x^2 = 1,444

x^2 = 722

x = square root of 722

x = 26.87 yards
