You are skiing down a mountain with a vertical height of 1200 feet. The distance that you ski as you go from the top down to the base of the mountain is 2900 feet. Find the angle of elevation from the base to the top of the mountain.

Given

The length of the hill (hypotenuse) = 2900feet

Vertical height (opposite) = 1200feet(That side is opposite the angle of elevation)

According to SOH;

sin theta = opp/hyp

Sin theta = 1200/2900

Sin theta = 12/29

Sin theta= 0.4138

theta= arcsin(0.4138)

theta = 24.44°

Hence the angle of elevation from the base to the top of the mountain is 24.44°
