This question is about "Fahrenheit 451"

Answer:

These pages have a tone of agony.

Step-by-step explanation:

In literature the tone is the literary artifice that has the capacity to show a feeling to the reader, in this case, if a passage narrates a happy situation, the tone of that passage is joy; if a passage narrates a sad situation, the tone of that passage is sadness.

In the case shown in the question above, the pages reflect the moment when Montag is agonized, confused, trite and disjointed and for this reason he almost reaches the point of collapse. These feelings of agony, can be felt by the character due to the discovery of the intriguing capacity of books and the flat and unsatisfactory society that he lives. The character's agony sets the tone of the passage and it is this feeling that is passed on to the reader.
