“Caged Bird” uses an extended metaphor throughout the poem. Even though you might not know what is being compared, how is the caged bird described? Compare and contrast the life of the caged bird versus the life of the free bird.

A caged bird may bot be free and the metaphor is used throughout the text to describe his longing to be outside. On the other hand, the caged bird may enjoy being in his own space. Unlike the caged bird a free bird can roam around and do whatever they want. This is why the caged bird may want to be a free bird.

Hope this helps!!!
