300x2=600

Therefore we can determine 60% = 300

The next thing to do would be to determine 1% and we can do this by dividing both sides by 60:

60% = 300

1% = 5

Then multiply both sides by 100 to determine 100% of total votes (total amount of students who voted):

1% = 5

100% = 500

Therefore 500 students voted in the election.
