Explanation:

Fact regarding the centroids of a triangle.

On each median the distance from the vertex to the centroid is twice the distance from the centroid to the midpoint, thus

BD = 2DE, that is

4 = 2DE ( divide both sides by 2 )

DE = 2

Thus

BE = BD + DE = 4 + 2 = 6
