Given:

Jordan's walked for 12 minutes she took 804 steps.

Karen's walked 2,100 steps in 32 minutes.

To find:

Who was walking at a faster rate?

Solution:

We need to find the unit rate of Jordan and Karen.

\text{Unit rate}=\frac{\text{Total steps}}{\text{Total time}}

Unit rate of Jordan,

\text{Unit rate}=(804)/(12)

\text{Unit rate}=67

Unit rate of Karen,

\text{Unit rate}=(2100)/(32)

\text{Unit rate}=65.625

Clearly, 67 > 65.625.

Since, unit rate of Jordan is greater, therefore she walked faster.
