3x + 2(4x - 6) = 8x + 1

Expand the brackets by multiplying everything INSIDE (4x - 6) by the number directly outside (2):

3x + 8x - 12 = 8x + 1

Collect like terms (everything with the same letters):

11x - 12 = 8x + 1

Isolate 11x by adding 12 to both sides:

11x = 8x + 13

Isolate 13 by taking 8x off both sides:

3x = 13

Divide both sides by 3 to get the value of x:

x =
(13)/(3)
