Max made his way down the aisle and chose a seat halfway back, just as the bus released its brakes with a loud

sigh. Max wore headphones and studied his laces, and nobody tried to start up a conversation. For that, Max was
grateful, as he was mentally reviewing his course schedule and room numbers. He tapped his toe erratically and
checked his pocket for his locker combination. It will be fine, he thought, putting in a piece of gum to absorb some of
his energy. He snapped a bubble, tapped his toe, and glanced out the window at the approaching school.

Answer:

The correct answer is The characterization reveals Max's nervousness.

Step-by-step explanation:

The characterization tool is used for the author of a literary work to describe his characters with details that serve for the development of the story.

There are two types of characterization:

  • Direct: Indicates character traits that are explicitly written. They can be clarified by the author, the protagonist or other characters.
  • Indirect: It is a subtle method where the reader is the one who deduces the personality or characteristics of the character through implicit descriptions made by the author.

As we can see from this passage, Max is nervous. Even the text gives us a hint of this when he says "He tapped his toe erratically" or tells himself that "It will be fine".

Given this information we can say that the correct answer is The characterization reveals Max's nervousness.
