Answer: C. His parents noticed that he was happy for the first time.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the book Weslandia, Wesley is an outcast in school who gets made fun of by his school mates and so has no friends which has made him a gloomy person. In the summer he decides to embark on a project using a magical plant he finds growing in his family's backyard.

As he grows and experiments more on the plant, he finds that it offers food, shelter and more and this intrigues and interests him to experiment more. This attracts even those schoolmates who made fun of him to become his followers. All these changes made him happy and his parents took notice.
