Mowgli who was very sad that the dogs rejected him by thinking of him as a man brought a firepot that was feared by the dogs to scare them. After beating Shere Khan whom he especially despised with the flaming branch, he began striking the fire around the circle of the wolves thus making all the dogs scamper for dear life.

When he was left with about ten dogs who remained at his side, he broke down in tears because he did not really wish to leave the jungle and go live with men. He bade his parents farewell and promised to come to visit them.
