There were 100 pizzas sold at Romeo's Pizzeria on Tuesday. A large pizza costs $16 and a small pizza costs $11. If $1,550 worth of pizzas were sold in all, how many small pizzas were sold?​

Explanation:

Let number of large pizzas be l and number of small be s.

Then we have equations:

  • l + s = 100
  • 16l + 11s = 1550

From the first equation, we get l = 100 - s and substitute in the second equation:

  • 16(100 - s) + 11s = 1550
  • 1600 - 16s + 11s = 1550
  • 5s = 1600 - 1550
  • 5s = 50
  • s = 10

Number of small pizzas is 10
