The area of this square is 36 cm2

Work out the circumference of the circle that just fits inside it using circumference = π x diameter

18.8495559 cm (use however many significant figures or decimal places you are told)

Explanation:

  • if it is inside the square and touches the edges, then the diameter of the circle equals the length of the square's sides
  • Square has equal length sides so the area is
    Area=length*length=(length)^2
  • So if the area is the square of the same length, then the length is the square root of the area
    length=√(area)=√(36cm^2)=6cm
  • so the circle diameter is 6 cm

  • C=\pi *d\\=\pi *6cm\\=18.8495559cm
