Points (−3, 5) and (3, 5) on the coordinate grid below show the positions of two players on a tennis court:

A coordinate plane is shown. There is a point at 3, 5 labeled Player 2. There is a point at negative 3, 5 labeled Player 1.

Which statement best describes the relationship between the positions of the two players?

Player 2's position is Player 1's position reflected across the y-axis; only the signs of the y-coordinates of Player 1 and Player 2 are different.

Player 2's position is Player 1's position reflected across the x-axis; only the signs of the x-coordinates of Player 1 and Player 2 are different.

Player 2's position is Player 1's position reflected across the x-axis; only the signs of the y-coordinates of Player 1 and Player 2 are different.

Answer:

Player 2's position is Player 1's position reflected across the y-axis; only the signs of the x-coordinates of Player 1 and Player 2 are different.

Explanation:

Since the points are on opposite sides of the y-axis that means the two answers about the x-axis don't work because for those answers to work the points would have to be on either side of the x-axis. From there, you can say, okay which coordinate in the two points didn't stay the same. Since 3 didn't stay the same (one is negative, one is positive) and it is in the x-coordinate position (x,y), you know that the first answer doesn't work either.
